This guide describes how to use Google Veo for video generation, based on the available Google platforms and APIs. It presents pathways for end users, creatives, and developers to create videos from text, images, or other assets.

Introduction & prerequisites

Before you start with Google Veo, check the following prerequisites:

Choose the path that best fits your needs:

Gemini App (End users)

The Gemini App provides the fastest way to test Veo as an end user.

  1. Choose subscription: Subscribe to Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra to gain access to Veo. The current capabilities and Veo access can be found on the Subscription page or via Google One.
  2. Open Gemini and sign in: Start the Web version or the app.
  3. Open the Video Generator: In Gemini, select Video or follow the Veo page and click on „Try Veo“.
  4. Create prompt: Describe the subject, style, camera movement, and desired sounds precisely. Optionally you can upload a photo. Tips and examples can be found on the Veo page.
  5. Generate and review: Have Veo 3.1/3.1 Fast generate an 8-second clip. If needed, rephrase or refine the prompt, as on the Veo page.
  6. Download/Reuse: Save the clip. Note the SynthID watermark from Google.

The Gemini App enables a quick entry into video generation with Veo 3.

Tip for unavailability: If certain options (e.g., photo-to-video) are not available, check the feature page ( Gemini Help Center ) Veo overview, , as Google rolls out features in stages.

Flow (Creatives)

Flow offers filmmakers and creatives more control over the video generation process.

  1. Go to Flow and sign in: Open the Flow About page or the Tool page and connect your account.
  2. Complete onboarding: Watch the short introduction. The help explains core features and projects in the Support section.
  3. Create project: Plan scenes/clips and set up a folder structure.
  4. Add assets: Upload reference images, frames, or storyboards („Ingredients to Video“, „Frames to Video“), as on the Flow About page.
  5. Generate clips: Create a prompt for each scene, specify camera moves and the look, and enable audio. Veo 3.1 enables more realistic movements and audio, as in the Google AI Blog.
  6. Iterate: Extend shots ('Extend'), review transitions and refine consistency, as on the Flow About page.
  7. Export: Render and download the clips. Note the watermarks and platform policies.

For programmatic video generation and scaling, the Gemini API or Vertex AI are available.

Option 1: Gemini API (fast start, API key)

  1. Open video documentation and review models: In AI Studio you will find the video documentation and can review models such as Veo 3.1 ( Veo 3 model).
  2. Set up API access: Create in AI Studio a project and a key. Note the quotas and limits.
  3. Send first requests: Use the sample code from the documentation and set prompts and parameters (resolution, guidance, seeds).
  4. Optional: Test Veo 3 Fast or image-to-video capabilities, as in the Google Developers Blog.

Option 2: Vertex AI (Cloud projects, teams, governance)

  1. Create a Google Cloud project: Enable billing and enable Vertex AI in the Console. Console free.
  2. Choose Veo model: Open Model Garden/Studio ('Veo 3 / Video Generation'). Check region and quota information in the Model reference or in the Model Garden.
  3. First test: Generate interactively in Vertex AI Studio or use the REST/SDK sample from the Model reference.
