Google and Reliance Jio offer selected customers in India up to 18 months of free access to the Google AI Pro plan. This offer includes extended access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, additional storage capacity, and higher limits for AI-powered image and video generation. The rollout starts with 18- to 25-year-olds on a 5G plan and is expected to be quickly extended to all eligible Jio users.

Introduction

In India, selected Jio-Kund:innen Googles AI-Pro-Plan – including extended access to Gemini 2.5 Pro – up to 18 months free. The offer starts for 18- to 25-year-olds on a 5G plan and is slated to roll out quickly to all eligible Jio users. Activation is via the MyJio app. The package value is quoted by the providers at around 35,100 rupees, including 2 TB of storage and higher limits for image/video AI.

Gemini is Google's AI assistant that provides answers, research, code, and creative content in the app. Gemini 2.5 Pro is the most capable consumer-access model in this package. The Google AI Pro plan bundles exactly this extended access along with Deep Research, higher quotas for video generation (including Veo 3.1 Fast) and 2 TB of cloud storage for Drive, Gmail, and Photos. Reliance Jio is India's largest provider with over 500 million mobile customers, which makes the deal relevant for the spread of AI services. Activation runs for eligible users directly in the MyJio app.

Current status

On October 30, 2025, Google and Reliance announced the partnership: Jio-Nutzer:innen erhalten 18 Monate lang den Google-AI-Pro-Plan at no additional cost. This starts with 18- to 25-year-olds on an unlimited 5G plan; the rollout will be expanded to all eligible Jio customers in the shortest time possible. Jio explicitly states: early access for 18–25 years, with an active Unlimited-5G plan from 349 rupees; claim per mobile number; ongoing tariff activity is a condition. Included are, among other things, extended access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, higher limits for image/video models (e.g., Veo 3.1 Fast), NotebookLM, and 2 TB storage.

First how-to guides show the process in the MyJio app: open the banner, register interest, link your Google account. Trade media view the partnership as one of the largest telecom AI bundles in the market. In parallel, Reliance and Google Cloud deepen their collaboration, for example in access to TPUs; Google also invests $15 billion in an AI hub in India.

Analysis

For Google, India is the most mobile, fastest-growing AI mass-market. A bundle with Jio lowers entry barriers, establishes the Gemini app on millions of smartphones, and strengthens the ecosystem consisting of Workspace, NotebookLM, and Google One. For Jio, it is customer acquisition and retention in the 5G segment – Value Add rather than pure data packages. Market-wide, we see a freemium push: OpenAI offers ChatGPT Go in India for a year for free, Airtel distributes Perplexity Pro for 12 months to 360 million customers. That resembles streaming bundles in the early phase of the Indian market. At the same time, India tightens rules on labeling AI content (visible labels, metadata) – relevant for everyone who will create more AI media in the future.

The duration is up to 18 months, starting with 18–25-year-olds on Unlimited-5G plans; activation via MyJio; value about 35,100 rupees; includes extended Gemini-2.5-Pro access, higher limits for image/video and 2 TB storage. It is unclear exactly when 'all eligible Jio users' will be unlocked; Google/Jio talk about 'shortest time possible' but do not provide a fixed plan. The claim 'Immediate for all without conditions' is false/misleading—the early phase is clearly age- and plan-bound and requires a continuously active 5G plan; in addition, the offer is redeemable per number only once.

Sundar Pichai emphasizes that they bring the best of Google AI to Jio and look forward to effects in daily life. From Jio's perspective, it is about an AI-enabled population and businesses, embedded in cloud infrastructure cooperation. Criticism and open points come from the creative sector and regulation: the new labeling requirements for AI media are seen as very strict and are being discussed.

Practical tips

Check in MyJio whether the 'Google Gemini Pro FREE' banner appears, register your interest, and link the desired Google account; the how-tos guide you step by step. Keep in mind: age window, active 5G plan, redemption per number, possible expansion to later waves. For usage: features and limits of the AI Pro plan, including 2 TB storage and Gemini in Workspace apps, are described in detail on Google's plan page. If you publish AI images/videos, comply with labeling requirements and future detailed rules.

Outlook & Conclusion

When exactly does the broad rollout beyond the 18-25 cohort start, and are identical terms valid for all plans? Will there be automatic changes to paid plans after 18 months or clear opt-in processes? What local language and data privacy details arise from the cloud cooperation (TPUs, data locations) and the new labeling rules? Official answers have been announced in part, but are not yet published in detail.

The telecom AI bundle from Jio and Google dramatically lowers the barrier to access to powerful AI. For users, that means: try the benefits, build workflows, know the labeling requirements—and note the transition after 18 months in your calendar. For both companies, it is a strategic move: reach plus retention for Jio, ecosystem growth for Google. If the broad rollout occurs as announced, Gemini in India will experience a rapid dissemination — with opportunities for education, productivity, and creative work.
